Looking for a way to prevent multiple clicks on the "reset" button to get a longer interval. Would like to enforce having to wait to the last minute or so before allowing another click.
Any suggestions?

Sorry, that is not possible. The sign in was created to give you a way to make sure the sub is there. And it is quite simple.

Maybe you can use a flag with a duration, and let the expireprocedure change to a substatus, where the sub has to make a report within a specified amount of time. So the sub must be present when the status change happens.
